What a wonderful walkabout with Victor Dover! I thoroughly enjoyed watching the video and listening to the exchange. For those still against changing things, have you listened to and absorbed what the experts have said (Victor Dover and Kimley-Horne)? I don't understand why you are continuing to beat your drum of congestion and bottleneck problems when the experts have said otherwise? Have you been to other charming downtowns across the US and in Europe to understand what constitutes a vibrant downtown?
To add a sharp point to your comment, Vicky, the experts tell us that expanding downtown residential units is critical to the revival of any city center. Such residents become the core year-round customers of innovative businesses, they will hold the city accountable for maintenance, and many will exert civic leadership on neighborhood entertainment in the form of the arts and music.
Victor Dover, Brian Good and several Vero property owners tell us that downtown residential development wil not happen as long as a seven lane racetrack bisects the historic district. It was a terrible mistake to build it years ago, it is not needed today, and will not be needed in 2047. It's really a simple choice between continued downtown decay on one hand, vs. lane reduction and downtown reviva on the other. Expert analytics repeatedly confirm that narrowing HW60 to two lanes in each direction will not materially increase travel time, does not create a hurricane evacuation risk and significantly improves safety. The proposed parallel parking is not critical to the Twin Pairs lane reduction plan. The eliminated lanes can be repurposed into wider, greener, shadier sidewalks as well as space for restaurants, coffee shops and pubs to expand outside seating.
